Abstract:
Hydrogen is not only an important raw material for many industrial processes, but also a fuel that can reduce carbon emissions. The researchers are currently working on coupling renewable energy generation with hydrogen production by electrolysis of water in order to develop a new technology with zero carbon emissions. However, in the short term, hydrogen production from fossil fuels is still the mainstream solution. Traditional coal gasification and methane reforming hydrogen production will produce a lot of carbon dioxide, which does not meet the national ‘carbon neutral, carbon peak’ requirements, so a natural gas as a raw material of hydrogen production technology has attracted much attention - methane pyrolysis. The methane pyrolysis process produces only hydrogen and solid carbon and does not release greenhouse gases, which makes the technology a bridge from fossil fuels to renewable sources of hydrogen production.
